Spatial Variation of Phytochemical and Antioxidant Activities of Olive Mill Wastewater: A Chemometric Approach

نویسندگان

چکیده

Olive mill wastewater (OMW) was obtained during the extraction of olive oil. It is typified by an elevated concentration sugars, acids, proteins, polyphenols, and organic matter. This makes removal OMW problematic for all oil-producing countries. Due to their high in these wastewaters are a source danger environment. research aimed study spatial distribution effect terms geographical origin production oil on phenolic content antioxidant activity OMWs. A chemometric approach using principal component analysis (PCA) hierarchical cluster (HCA) utilized. Physico-chemical characterization OMWs performed evaluate pollutant load setting following parameters: pH, dry matter, conductivity, chemical oxygen demand. Quantitative compounds shows that extract samples had phenolics varying from 238.26 ± 5.67 534.16 3.83 mg GAE/g extract, flavonoids 179.89 1.64 421.47 3.42 QE/g tannins 101.66 0.65 216.28 3.41 CE/g extract. Antioxidant determined two testing systems: DPPH ABTS assay. The IC50 varied 0.30 0.08 1.93 0.34 µg/mL, while it between 2.04 0.16 6.11 0.25 µg/mL method. indicated methods strongly correlated. Furthermore, important correlations were shown one hand other activities (DPPH, ABTS).

Olive Mill Waste Extracts: Polyphenols Content, Antioxidant, and Antimicrobial Activities

Natural polyphenols extracts have been usually associated with great bioactive properties. In this work, we investigated in vitro antioxidant and antimicrobial potential of the phenolic olive mill wastewater extracts (OWWE) and the olive cake extracts (OCE). Using the Folin Ciocalteux method, OWWE contained higher total phenol content compared to OCE (8.90 ± 0.728 g/L versus 0.95 ± 0.017 mg/g)....

Antimicrobial Activity of Olive Mill Waters (Alpechin) and Biotransformed Mill Wastewater Waste- Olive Oil

Olive oil extraction produces a great volume of residue. These olive mill wastes are known as alpechin. This wastewater is a powerful pollutant, resistant to degradation and presents a severe environmental problem related to its high organic content made up largely of simple phenolic compounds, that have been described as being both antimicrobial and phytotoxic. This paper reviews briefly the a...

Enrichment of Phenolic Compounds from Olive Mill Wastewater and In Vitro Evaluation of Their Antimicrobial Activities

The production of olive oil generates massive quantities of by-product called olive mill wastewater (OMWW). The uncontrolled disposal of OMWW poses serious environmental problems. The OMWW effluent is rich in several polyphenolic compounds. Liquid-liquid extraction of OMWW using ethyl acetate solvent was used to enrich phenolic compounds under investigation. Total phenolic and flavonoid content...

Efficiency of Fenton Process in Olive Oil Mill Wastewater Treatment

Background and purpose: Wastewater olive processing industries have significant amounts of organic compounds resistant to biodegradation which are hazardous if not treated and discharged to the environment. Advanced oxidation processes such as Fenton process have been considered to increase and improve the biological degradability of this type of wastewater. Current study aimed at investigating...
